What Is API 682? History and Key Points of the Fourth Edition

API 682, also known as ISO 21049, is the reference standard for mechanical debris and pump liquid-grade systems in oil, gas, petrochemicals and chemicals. Understanding this standard helps the selection of debris and writing of technical requirements more accurately.

History is short.

In the 1990s, API 682 separated into a separate, more detailed standard. The third edition (2004) was unified with ISO 21049. The fourth edition took six years to prepare and was about 260 pages long, compared to about 200 pages of the previous edition.

The main point of the fourth.

  • The product code system is modified, retaining the three parameters Category, Arrangement, Type and adding material information, axle diameter.
  • Two types of silicon carbide (reaction bond and combustion) are used as the default surface material.
  • The first time there was a chart by risk and danger code to select the default configuration.
  • There is a prescribed fluid supplementation period of at least 28 days.
  • The red button on the connector ports helps to recognize the fourth drop.

Three basic configurations.

Arrangement 1 is a single drop, Arrangement 2 is a double drop, Arrangement 3 is a double drop.
